Traditional Kitchen - Galston

8 people love this kitchen.

This Galston kitchen renovation took the original 1960’s timber kitchen which suffered from a dark and timber interior that failed to offer a functional or aesthetically rich experience and transformed it to an elegant space that hums with light and life.

Walls were removed and the small poky room was opened to the adjoining dining and lounge area to integrate the family living spaces for better circulation and an open composition.  With attention now in the kitchen, a traditional shaker-style provincial design with a touch of Hampton’s flair was conceived to serve as an entertaining without comprising on functionally with premium worktop space included on both sides of the butler sink and a set-down area opposite the frig on the island bar. All practical elements were considered, ensuring ample drawer space for pots, tidy bins, and external views through the kitchen and family room windows.

The new design invites copious amounts of light to flood the kitchen, which has been carefully planned and styled to create an open and charismatic environment with subtle allure and practically that the owners are pleased to cook, clean and entertain in.

Judges' comments
There has been a high level of detailed displayed within this farmhouse style kitchen. A traditional style in some ways can be more challenging than a contemporary design. The detail shown in the work for this project is of very high standard. Detail such as the corbelling, shelving detail, and consistent gaps between all corners of the draws set this project aside from all others.
