Designing a modern kitchen that does not look like a kitchen might seem an impossible task, but Art of Kitchens took on the challenge and created a striking room in this lovely Cammeray home. The brief was simple: create a functional kitchen that doesn’t necessarily look like a kitchen that integrates well with the surrounding rooms and to accommodate the owners’ love of cooking and entertaining.
Although the kitchen has plenty of space and natural light, its elevated platform presents a further challenge to accommodating the clients’ wish list. Different materials and textures were used to achieve a harmonious balance with the existing decor. Polyurethane cabinets in a Vivid White finish are balanced by Cleaf Oregan veneer and the existing timber ceiling. The Calcutta Gold Smartstone island and splashback are nicely offset by the Bronze Armani marble top with a mirrored support. This not only adds ‘wow’ factor, but also bring visual elements from the surrounding rooms into the kitchen.
This kitchen is aesthetically pleasing without losing functionality. Small appliances are tucked behind pocket doors for easy access, and larger appliances are fully integrated. There is even a dedicated cocktail and drinks preparation area with a wine fridge and small sink located at one end of the kitchen for easy access. With enough space to hang out and talk after work, cook gourmet meals or create refreshing cocktails, there is no doubt this modern kitchen deserves its elevated position.
