MODERN KITCHEN – WAREHOUSE KITCHEN CONVERSION

Our client wanted a unique, modern space that would pay tribute to the industrial history of the original factory building, yet remain an inviting space for entertaining, socialising and cooking.

The brief called for an industrial edge to match the vast scale of the building, and the very best appliances to match the first-class technology used throughout the rest of the home.

There was no question of compromise on quality, and the appliances had to be state-of-the-art products that would not get lost in the industrial design.

This project focused on designing an aesthetically pleasing, functional kitchen that complemented the industrial style of the building. The warehouse kitchen space needed to be impressive in its own right, without taking away from the main features of the open-plan living area.

Discipline at the early stages of the design process was crucial because there were no limitations on costs, materials or layout, therefore difficult to keep the overall design from endlessly evolving. A large component of the air-conditioning had to be seamlessly hidden within the design and the kitchen was required to make a bold, individual statement and yet remain in keeping with the eclectic feel of the home. Softening the overall look of the kitchen was also a challenge because of the industrial feel and the choice of materials.

Every facet of the kitchen, from the smallest tile to the largest appliance was carefully considered. A combination of creative design and flawless joinery made it possible to use diverse materials such as stainless steel, reclaimed timbers, marble and reflective surfaces alongside integrated state-of-the-art appliances created an urbane, inner-city space suitable for large-scale entertaining or relaxing.

Handmade stainless steel bronzed dipped fronts in combination with heavy-duty riveted steel beams and recycled ironwood makes this kitchen feel naturally within the open plan warehouse environment.
