MODERN KITCHEN – WILLOUGHBY

This Willoughby Kitchen space was converted from a separate kitchen, laundry and dining room into one open – plan area, and the lowered ceiling in the kitchen helps define the space.

Because walls were removed, we were left with a supporting post in the centre we decided to make a feature of it in the timber laminate. This detail is continued on the legs of the island as well as the trim around the floating cabinets. The colour picks up some of the golden tones in the marble and both finishes were chosen to provide an accent to the all – white kitchen without overpowering it, so the main contrast is between the white cabinets and walls and the dark – timber floor.

We kept full – height cabinets just on the side walls to avoid the back wall looking too solid. The laundry is now neatly housed behind these tall cabinets and an extra single sink at that end of the Benchtop doubles as a food prep and laundry sink.

Drawers run all the way below the back Benchtop and island to make the best use of this space and the shark – nose edge adds to the overall sleek look of the handle-less cabinetry throughout.
